MEDALLION

While photographing in the downtown area, I came across this medallion embedded in the side walk. Thought it was interesting. I wonder if other cities, such as Amsterdam and Venice, do the same? What about any city on the water?  This also begs the question if dumping would be allowed if it did not drain into the waterway? You may click the image for a closer look.

  1. In Boston there are similar, though not as nice medallions, that caution people that the sewer drains either to the Charles, or the Harbah.

  2. We don't have signs like this, but obviously it's not legal to dump anything into the canals. Although a lot of things like old bicycles and even some furniture end up there and have to be removed by a boat that's specialized to this end.
