RIDE 'EM

I am aware that some art can seem strange to those of us who aren't artists. The above work, for example, is a case in point. It is a boy sitting on a fish sitting on a serpent. Maybe this piece imitates life. I can say with certainty, I have never seen anything like this in my life. Boys in my neighborhood simply do not ride fish. I can safely say that our local fish do not ride serpents. I am pretty sure this piece is a poor copy of the original from somewhere in Europe. Rumor has it, their fish are more athletic than ours. Mystery solved!

  1. Well, yes, something's definitely fishy here. I am about to Google 'boys on fish.'

  2. Boys here ride almost everything, but I haven't seen anyone riding fishes. Maybe because fishes are smarter than our boys, or simply they aren't big enough.
Now I've to go because the parking meter of my (hybrid) serpent is just expired...

  4. I definitely saw this in someone's blog just last year. Of course, I can't remember whose.

I wouldn't mind riding a sea serpent, as long as I can breathe in the water.

  6. It looks to me like they're all just waiting for a ride.

  7. Maybe the artist was high on something of his or her time period. Jackson Pollack, whose work you also show in the sidebar was thought to be some kind of nut when he was first on the scene with his splattered and dribbled paintings. But I would love to have bought at least one in his early days. I saw online this morning where a piece of modern sculpture sold at auction for 104 million plus. A record.

  8. Either a copy from a European original, where we know fish ride serpents and boys ride fish, or it is the product of some artist's fevered imagination - perhaps due to spending too much time in the hot sun at Ft. Lauderdale beach!

  9. That's funny! A fish big enough to ride would be too scary for me.

  11. Always thought statues would make an interesting Theme Day topic to capture in our cities.

  12. «Louis» has the interpretation for you. What the statue means is: "Boy, there's something fishy about those snakes in Washington!"

  13. I'm sure whoever placed it there felt is classed up the joint some. They might have even had a good story or ancient legend to go with it... or not. The beer can is quite decorative, too.

  14. The serpent's trying to tell us something. Something about Timmy and a well.

  15. Bet it has do with some myth or folktale.

  16. :)) Given that I've seen a lot of these in Europe I can tell that your detective work is top notch.

Glad to have you back to blogging :) I'm chuckling through my morning coffee again :)

  17. Sitting across the street from some apartments, takes away the ambience! HA
