WOODY THE WOODPECKER

This is a daily visitor to my backyard. His name (if you haven't guessed) is Woody. He shows up every morning for a peanut that I am eager to give him. He is quite tame and very beautiful. You would have been mistaken assuming all we had here is 'Snowbirds.' Woody also has a wife but she must have been otherwise preoccupied this morning.

  5. Oh, gosh! I never realized you had woodpeckers down there! I used to see them in Pa. at my grandmother's. I think there is a similar species here, but none this pretty.

  7. Congrats on a great photo and having such a nice friend...he actually takes a peanut from you?

Amazing. Of course, these little critters will make a lot of noise outside your window chipping away at your most expensive palm tree!

  8. Beautiful woodpecker! How nice he will let you take his photo...and for peanuts! I bet the snowbirds (especially from Ontario) would charge much more.

  15. Let's hope he won't start pecking where you don't want him to. Hard to understand how the brain of such a fellow stays intact, considering his hobby.

  18. Maybe he IS a snowbird. I'm pretty sure he was hanging around here all last summer -- have you seen him driving a golf cart?

Nice shot, I love bird photos.

  20. Woody is a fast talker and a sharp dresser. I bought a used car from him once.

  21. I hope Woody loves your home B2, and doesn't venture north. The ones that drill on my downspouts make me insane!

  24. That's a red-belled woodpecker, one of the more common ones in my yard. I love them. BTW the cartoon Woody was a pileated woodpecker.

  25. I'll be reading and commenting when I can between now and Feb. 21. I'm getting ready now, and on the 12th will be going to meet my Honey in London and see parts of England outside the city as well. My three active blogs will continue to post. I look forward to visiting your insane world more often again when the adventure is over :)
