BRIDGE OVER CALM WATERS

This is my contribution to the new Sunday Bridge Series launched by Louis La Vache of San Francisco Bay Daily Photo. Hope you find it interesting and join in. At least drop by Louis's site and see his shot and click on the links to the other team players. Pour a cup of coffee, put on your jersey and let's go. This is the 11th Avenue Bridge. It is very old (by Ft. Lauderdale standards). Construction was completed in 1925. It pivots (swings) when boats need to pass. They don't make them like this anymore.

  1. WOW! A pivoting bridge - «Louis» hasn't seen one of these in eons. You're right - they don't make 'em like this anymore.

«Louis» is happy you are participating and thanks you for the plug about his blog. He'll try to write nicer things about your beloved Yugo, at least for the next 24 hours. Beyond that, maybe not...

  2. I'd like to see that! I hope you catch it sometime when it is pivoted. I love these oldie but goody engineering feats. Thanks for sharing this cool shot.

  3. Wish I could join, don't have any bridges.

This one is so nice, I want to drive through it all day and walk it all tomorrow. What's the view like?

  4. I think I remember this bridge from the time we lived there. I always thought it fun that it swings for boats!

  6. Very cool bridge. I think 1925 is pretty old. I think your entry is older than mine even!

    Happy weekend!

  7. I like the older bridges and this one looks barely wide enough to be two lanes. I think cars back then were real skinny. I am glad Louis is doing this. There are so many different kinds of bridges. MB

  9. I like this idea for a theme, and pivoting bridges like this one are very interesting.

  11. Bridges are always fascinating, and usually fun to look at.

  12. They sure don't make 'em like that anymore! But you still have to wait for the boats to come through. Nicely composed!

  13. «Louis» just found the PERFECT replacement for your Yugo. We know how attached you are to it, but it has also been somewhat trouble prone...Just trying to look out for you...

  14. Nice choice. I think there are a couple of swing bridges in the Greater Seattle area as well, though most of our moveable bridges are drawbridge types.

  15. We don't have many bridges here either, but I will enjoy the pictures.
