THE ALLURE OF THE SEAS

This is THE ALLURE OF THE SEAS. Click this link to see all that she has to offer, should you be interested. This is a shot of her arrival in Fort Lauderdale a couple of days ago on her maiden voyage. She is the largest cruise ship in the world. The Allure takes the title from her sister ship, THE OASIS OF THE SEAS, that debuted here last year. You may click this link to see a video of the two ships side by side. I don't have the photographer's name who deserves credit for this shot. Whether you are a "cruiser" or not, it is a beautiful sight!

WHAT RECESSION?

So, here is what was opposite yesterday's post. The Oasis Of The Seas. She is the newest and largest cruise ship in the world. This photo was taken thru a fence with dogs nipping at my heals. Security is rather tight in the port these days, making closer shots difficult. She arrived four days ago from Finland. Her maiden voyage will be on December 5. She has a crew of 2,165, 16 decks, a carousel, an Aqua Theater, a mini golf course, 4 swimming pools, a park with 1200 plants and 56 trees to name but a few of the attractions. The photo below (taken by Amy Bennett) shows her arrival into port. If you click the above link, you will be directed to the official Oasis site with more photos and videos. In case you happen to be wondering what her price tag was, try $1.5 billion U.S. Even I can't think of anything to say after that.

ANCHORS AWEIGH

This is an angle you don't often get of a cruse ship. Imagine you are a dolphin cavorting in front of this lumbering behemoth. Interesting. Now squint just a little. It almost looks like the ship is wearing a pair of sunglasses. Enough of that. Please enlarge the photo and look underneath the starboard anchor, it helps to put things in perspective.

RUBY PRINCESS

This is the newest ship in The Princess Cruise Line. She is just a year young and cost over $400 million dollars (US). She is 951 ft (290m) in length, has 19 decks and can do 23 knots (43km/h). With a crew of 1200, your ever wish can be met.
She cruises The Caribbean in winter and does the transatlantic route to Europe in the spring. You can set sail from here to Barcelona on April 11 and/or return from Venice on October 11.
All the ships in the Princess line have live webcams on their bridges. You may follow this link to their site and page down to BRIDGE CAM  and have a look. And one more thing, to get a better idea of the size of the Ruby Princess, click the above image and look directly under the bow.
