STS - 119 DISCOVERY

Last Sunday evening was spectacular. Not a cloud in the sky, a great opportunity to watch a rare evening Shuttle launch. This photo was taken in front of our house, 180 miles from the launch site. Space Shuttle Discovery blasted into space on a two week mission to the International Space Station. The next launch is scheduled for May 12. It will be going to repair The Hubble Telescope. You may view other SKYWATCH FRIDAY participants here.

  6. I think that's the best of the bunch so far! We couldn't get a shot 'cause of all the tall trees in our neighborhood.

    Good job!

  14. I think this is the shuttle we were supposed to watch launch on Thursday from Sapelo, but it was delayed because of a fuel leak or something! Wish I could have seen it. Beautiful photo though! =)

  24. Awesome photo! We logged on to NASA TV to watch the launch via the internet. It was really exciting for our kids because we had just been down there in Feb and saw it standing ready on the launch pad. I can't imagine that this view ever gets old! Smiles...

  31. Thanks for the visit this week. Some day I would love to see a launch. When I lived in California we used to see missile launches from Vandenberg Air Force Base, but they weren't as spectacular and hear the sonic booms when the shuttle came to land in the desert. - Margy
