THE HODGES LODGES

This is another example of unusual things people put in front of their homes. This Totem Pole sits at the start of the owners driveway. I apologize for the poor quality of the photo;a pocket camera and a moving car. It features fish at the bottom, a bear, and an eagle. It is beautiful, expensive and one of a kind. I can't imagine what they would do with it should they ever sell the house. They will just have to find a buyer with the last name of Hodges.

  1. You must still be in Michigan.
I'd bet the Hodges will take their Totem with them. YEP!!!

  2. I am quite sure they'll take it away for their new house...

  3. ...or any presumptive buyer will simple get an honorary title of Hodges from that day on.

  4. Detailed right to the bottom!
Our mailbox is a little barn. I just love it, but it's in need of a 'make-over.' I'm sure the mail-lady thinks it's going to fall apart 'Fred Flintstone' style every time she opens it and neighbors wonder when we'll replace it ;o)

  5. You look stern by your profile of Marlon Brando (lol) beneath that sterness an incredible humour hibernates. Yeah ... they can find a new Hodges.

The last person I knew who live under the woodland was my ex-brother-in-law. I don't know to whom he sold his house when he left Queensland. So this picture truly reminds me of their house under the forest.

As to the poor quality of the picture, let's say ... it's similar to Monet's work.

  6. Can you see if they bought a condo and moved the pole in front of it? You find the neatest things.

  7. Definitely unusual. Seems to work, though.

  8. Or they could leave the totem and just remove their name, making room for the new owner's name. Question: Can you elaborate on the comment you made on my blog today re. the Icelanders? There are 4th and 5th generation Icelanders on the Island; doesn't look like they plan to leave or do you mean that they're leaving Iceland because of their terrible economic problems??

  9. I am curious as to what the actual Hodge Lodge looks like. Your assignment is to go back, crawl through the woods and get a photo of it. The totem pole is actually an amazing work of Indian Art and their love of nature.

  10. You are finding some unusual and interesting things to photography up thar in Michigan!

I have a feeling the Hodges are creative enough that they would find a place and use for their totem pole no matter where they lived.

  11. Are these gates and totems in Ft Lauderdale or Michigan? I guess they will have to leave this house to their children who must never, never sell it to keep the totem in the family.

  12. That is really cool. There is one like that in a driveway by me, but it wouldn't be easy to get a picture. It's along a narrow winding two lane road.

  13. I wonder when they thought the pole was a good investment. It had to cost a bunch and as you point out, it's unique to the family's name. A future heirloom??

  14. Or take it with them, or replace just the sign part?

Very interesting. I wonder at its origins.

  15. I like the assignment of crawling through the woods for a photo--hope the woods aren't full of poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac--fire ants and stinging centipedes. LOL!

  16. I would leave it where it is. I like misleading people as to my identity.

  17. I wonder if the owner and the carver are one and the same.

I just read cieldequimper's remark and she has a good idea. I once lived in a house with someone else's name on the mailbox. It didn't fool the mailman (good thing, eh) but sales people called me by the wrong name. Yes, I found that very entertaining.

  18. That's quite an impressive totem and really unusual (eccentric?) to have it just by the home's driveway!
    Very interesting, thanks for sharing!
    God bless you!

  19. How could they leave that behind if they moved? I couldn't! That is really unique.

  20. I'd imagine they'd idg it up and take it with them to their next place.
