I'LL MEET YOU BY THE RED CHAIR
I am confused when looking at some modern art. Take the above piece which resides in front of a downtown office building. It is Modern, obviously not part of the 16th, 17th, or even the 18th or 19th centuries. One look tells you it is somewhere between one month and 10 years old. Kind of makes you wonder what people will think of it and similar pieces in the not too distant future. Just down the street, is a wonderful exhibition of Norman Rockwell's works. I think I may rest in this chair before heading down to see it.;if I can just find the missing cushion.

I can't agree more about everything you wrote, Norman Rockwell included. We could spray paint an old armchair, put it on a pedestal with a fancy plaque and nobody will see the difference...
ReplyDeletesuper capture and caption!!!
ReplyDeleteAgree with you on most pieces of modern art. I absolute abhore 'paintings' that are either just paint splashed on canvas (no matter how attractive they are) that people pay an arm and a leg for! I can't say I blame the artist; I find people who pay megabucks for that kind of 'art' are being taken for (or perhaps giving themselves) a ride. Stick to Normal Rockwell!
ReplyDeleteLooks like it might have come from Whoville. My picks didnt turn out so good this week.
ReplyDeleteBut you mean...the red chair of Noel? :)
ReplyDeleteAhh it's looking a modern and cool exhibition, I like it!

That chair is just WAITING to be SAT on by a passerby! Lovely, artsy snap!
ReplyDeleteWell this would have been good for today's theme of waiting. I'll wait for you by the red chair! I'm with you in your opinion, B Squared.
ReplyDeletevery cool photo! The red is so vibrant. I hope things are well. sorry I have been delayed in responding. I have had knee surgery, traveling for work, and lots of work. Uggh! no fun lately and I miss my friends in photography..
ReplyDeleteNow that's red! And there can be only one!
ReplyDeleteI also wonder how some of the modern works will stand the test of time. Guess we'll have to wait and see!
ReplyDeleteI agree with most modern art myself. I just shake my head. And about theme day. I'll try and remind you next month. I had Daryl and Bob Crowe to herd this month. What's one more!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see the Norman Rockwell museum, I think that would strike my fancy much more! LoL!
ReplyDeleteIt does not look very comfortable!
ReplyDeleteCuriouser and curiouser. I heard a most interesting piece about Norman Rockwell on NPR this past week. His rise, fall, and rise again.
ReplyDeleteI know when I come to your blog you will make me smile!
ReplyDeleteArt is subjective ... and I hope that artist uses the money he made selling that to buy a new seat cushion for it... clever post, Bill!
ReplyDeleteI think with modern art you just have to shut down any rational feelings you might have and let the thing wash over you. When you think you might be drowning, snap out of it and come back to your senses and find that Norman Rockwell exhibition you mentioned.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is not the missing cushion, by the way.
But as Daryl says, it's all subjective. Some modern art is subjectively idiotic, other is subjectively funky, and a lot is subjectively ...
I think I'd better quit now ... I'll go look at my photos of Venus de Milo and the Mona Lisa and Winged Victory.
;-))
WAITING would be fairly easy by using this vivid-coloured chair. The artist might not appreciate it, though! Good theme day photo!!
ReplyDeleteAnd in case anyone would contemplate doing so, there is in fact a sign prohibiting the use of this particular piece of furniture.
ReplyDeleteYou make me laugh! Let's go see Norman Rockwell please. I love him.
ReplyDeleteThe sign below it says "please do not climb or sit on sculpture". Too bad, it looks very climbable. Children would love it, and there are even handholds on the sides of the "arms"...

Bet it creates a lot of discussion
ReplyDeleteLOL! Very funny!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the Norman Rockwell one is the one we recently saw at the DIA--if so--well worth seeing--it was wonderful!
I like the way they made it uncomfortable for anyone to sit in but I'll bet kids have a field day with it.
ReplyDeleteI always get my art curator friend to explain modern art pieces to me too because I don't get them — and I usually don't like them much either. Even after being able to understand and appreciate them.
ReplyDeleteAt least this one's actually striking and quite pretty with that bright, shiny red.
LOL, BSquared! I presume you didn't find the cushion, the chair is still 'empty'! :-)
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't look very comfortable. I wonder - has anyone ever tried sitting in it?
