TROMPE L'OEIL, MY DEAR?

The more I get around this city, the more murals I discover. They really seem to be everywhere. The work above is one of my most favorite. Do yourself a favor, click it and be amazed. The perspective is incredible. While my French leaves much to be desired, I believe this is a real 'trompe l'oeil.'

  1. Thanks for your comment on my post regarding War. I went back and read the rest of the lyrics to the great Edwin Starr song. Here is a link to its history and a recording http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=1029. I am glad you are back with your entertaining posts. I like the mural a lot and appreciate the way it leads you into its reality.

  3. You said it: amazing! You have to enlarge the image to appreciate fully this beautiful work of art. I think this is a perfect example of a trompe-l'œil, one of the best I have ever seen.

  6. Dead-on. There are murals and then there is trompe l'oeil. It's the real thing and very well executed. I can never get enough of these creations and have tremendous respect for these artists and their talent.

    Great find, sir!

Have you seen the work of the sidewalk artists that do the same kind of thing?

  15. Hard to believe it is NOT a real room. I like the bit-o-sprouts at the sidewalk edge.

  18. I wouldn't want to take a wrong turn, especially while driving. Since that isn't the case, it's quite inviting to step right in :)

  25. This is fabulous trompe d'oeil. I so admire artists who can do this. There's an atelier in the Old Town where they offer their services, in fact there's a lot of trompe l'oeil around here but nothing like this.
