TOTEM POLE VAULT
What stuck me about this house wasn't the totem pole in the front yard. No! It was simply the scale. The totem pole is so big and the house is so small. The pole is as beautiful in person as it appears to be. I especially like the seagull on top. One of these days I'll try to find out the meaning of the symbols.

So interesting what the owner can say about this totem. Great find.
ReplyDeleteIt is gorgeous. I wonder why it's there.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful totem and it's perfect with the white house there.I also love that tree and the flag in front of the house.

Neat! Not something you see every day. A quick check into Native American symbolism says the seagull represents a "Carefree attitude, Versatility, Freedom"
ReplyDeleteAs a former resident of the Pacific Northwest, I am a big fan of totem poles. In another live I would have carved (will carve!) them! Actually, it would be kind of fun now to make one's own personal totem pole...hmmm....
ReplyDeleteBeautiful wooden work, seems that the symbols are mostly birds. Native beliefs further explain that a totem animal is one that is with you for life, both in the physical and spiritual world. Though people may identify with different animal guides throughout their lifetimes, it is this one totem animal that acts as the main guardian spirit. Here in Mexico the magic people call that special and personal spirit "Nagual".
ReplyDeleteThe seagull will deliver a 500 kg "bomb" on everything below it. The symbolism being what our Congress is doing to us...
ReplyDeleteA great work, with beautiful colors. You are right, the house looks small in the shadow of this impressive totem pole.
ReplyDeleteI like totem poles .
ReplyDeleteI find them hard to take pictures of because to get them in the picture you everything else or cut them in half. LOL MB
Where did you take this, B2? This looks oddly familiar.
ReplyDeleteThat is too cool. If I had a yard I'd definately get one, too! (Is that seagull part of the totem pole?)
ReplyDeleteI love this kind of carved/painted totem poles. I don't remember seeing one with a bird on top.
ReplyDeleteHow's about a close up of that pole B2? Go on, trespass, what's the worst thing that can happen?

What an impressive sight .. ok so I thought of and discarded several bad jokes ...
ReplyDeleteI'd love to know why the owner has a totem pole. I've seen a few around here too.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they have a large family and wanted to represent everyone?
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic! Some of my customers would die for a seagull like that. They are hard to find. I'm sure the artist made it him/herself.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Cross Village?
