I THINK I CAN, I THINK I CAN
This is The F. E. C. railroad bridge. The shot is somewhat deceiving. It sits right in the heart of the downtown area. There are no buildings that can be seen from this angle. It also crosses the river which can't be seen, either. As the train approaches, the bridge is lowered and the train does not get wet. Most ingenious.Sunday Bridges

I love mechanical bridges. This one is really neat!
ReplyDeletewow this is amazing!!
ReplyDeleteAnd what does it do when a Yugo approaches?
ReplyDeleteThe inquiring mind of «Louis la Vache» wants to know!
So very interesting! Could never guess without your explanation. Can you show it in lowered position?
ReplyDeleteI've always been partial to dry trains -:)
ReplyDeleteThat is a very interesting bridge. Instead of opening for boats it lowers for the train. I like it and you show a unique view.
ReplyDeleteI have seen something like this but had no idea what it was. I like this shot!
ReplyDeleteI had to think about it, your picture is really amazing. I guess the train is quite happy to stay dry...
ReplyDeleteRight downtown with no visible buildings, over a river that can't be seen....hmmm..did you stage this one? ;)
ReplyDeleteMaybe it is the perspective, but this bridge seems to mysteriously bridge nothing at all. . .maybe just elevates trains into the air :-). Very cool shot!

The structure look ominous and impressive!
ReplyDeleteThat's E.T.'s doing. It's really strange to see it like that but it's also a great shot!
ReplyDeleteI guess that there really is a true utilitarian purpose for engineers.
ReplyDeleteThis, indeed, is a strange look! Often these things make themselves known, after we've taken the shot and back home are checking out the shots later. Cool!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've seen a bridge like that one before your posting!
ReplyDeleteWEll that's a new one for me. Guess I didn't get around much when we lived there.

No kidding? It really does that?!
ReplyDeleteWell, now, we wouldn't want a wet train! So saith the bride!
ReplyDeleteVerrrrrry interesting. It sure looks like it's out in the middle of nowhere.
I don't understand why the train would get wet in the first place. You know, if the rails go over the water.
Life is so confusing sometimes! :-)
That's a very interesting structure -- as if it has seen a lot in its hey day.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Norwich Daily Photo and leaving your comment. Have a great week ahead!
It seems ingenious indeed but I'm afraid I still haven't quite figured out how it works...
ReplyDeleteGod bless you!
Cezar
Great photo. I like the iron work against the sky.
ReplyDeleteSo if the thing doesn't work, the train goes for a swim. I've never seen this. Wow, what a cool thing. I love the photo with the tracks reaching for the sky.
ReplyDeleteI think this would be fun to watch!
ReplyDeleteAnother engineering marvel. Ingenious. Yes we were on the same track there today..
ReplyDeleteI'm from Australia. Is the pic below the first one (the one in colour) in Ft Lauderdale? or Miami?
ReplyDeleteThat a different looking one. I cant figure out how it works.
ReplyDeleteAmazing contraption! Make sure to look behind you before you take a photo ;-)
ReplyDeleteI would love to watch it being raised and lowered. I guess there were no trains coming when you were taking the picture!
ReplyDeleteGreat shot! It does look like it is out in the middle of nowhere.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like the bridge to heaven. Please show us a shot of the train over the bridge/water.
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting.
