SMALL TOWN BOY MAKES GOOD
This mural is a tribute to the late jazz bassist Jaco Pastorius. Many people consider him a genius in his field. The muralist is Bill Savarese. He worked with such notable groups as Weather Report, Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, to name but a few. If you are interested in jazz, a quick search in Google or Wikipedia will give you more insight into this talented and tormented artist. He died at the age of 35.

Great mural...sad that he died so young.
ReplyDeleteThat's young. I like this style of mural. Good thing there's only one tree in front of it.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful mural, a fine photographic composition, a sad story.
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific mural! Good find.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder! :)

To die so young---what a waste of such a talent. MB
ReplyDeleteFabulous mural! I love the expression in the face.
ReplyDelete35 is much too young to die! I really like this mural though. Hopefully it helps him live on!
ReplyDeletebeautiful work!!
ReplyDeleteYou do find terrific murals, don't you?! This is great. Where is this in Lauderdale?
ReplyDeleteYour town is full of murals, it seems! (Not a bad thing - look how many interesting posts you get for your blog as a result!)
ReplyDelete«Louis» will go read the story of this musician now...
Wonderful mural .. sad he died so young, seems as if a lot of talented musicians died way too young ..
ReplyDeleteOh right, Weather Report. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDQlSSOXU6A
ReplyDeleteThis is a mural I can appreciate. And, as Daryl said, there's a sadness about the fact that we have lost a number of our most excellent musicians way too early.
ReplyDeleteBut, on the other hand, Les Paul lived to be 93!
No need of Google, I know him well and have most of his CD, all the Weather Report for sure and even a couple of solo recording. The mural is at least as good as the subject, bravo Savarese!
ReplyDeleteHow sad that so many of the truly gifted are also tormented!
ReplyDeleteBoth the musician and the artist seem to have amazing talent! I'll have to look them up :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat looking mural.
ReplyDeleteGreat mural and I love the fact that the mural exists as a reminder of his short fireball of a life. Didn't he live in the area at one time?
ReplyDeleteGreat mural. Too bad that he died so young.
