PORGY AND BESS
This is Bess. Forgive her for not getting up as she just gave birth to 14 piglets. Mother and all the little piglets are doing well. They live at Pond Hill Farm. It is an organic farm the likes of which this city boy has never seen. They have all kinds of pesticide and herbicide free produce, hormone and antibiotic free beef, pork (don't tell Bess), and lamb. They also have canned goods, soaps, and a lot of other things that I don't have a clue what they are. We went out in a field and picked our own strawberries. If you can believe this, they actually grow on a plant. Who would have thought? I just assumed they were generated in the back room of my local Publix. This country living has given me a whole new appreciation for a life I never knew anything about. You can check out their website, it really is a neat place. By the way, Bess's sister Peggy Sue lives at the farm and is due any day. Wow!

Great post, no wonder Bess is taking a break. 14 piglets, wow they are really cute till they get more bacon looking, oops.
ReplyDeleteThey're so tiny and cute and PINK! I've never seen piglets this young. I want to cuddle some!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed your visit to the farm. Their products sound wonderful. And you are so funny!
What a heartwarming shot. And obviously such a great place. I don't eat meat because I hate the way animals are treated and killed. This is different. I feel sure these animals are treated well and killed humanely. Laughed at the strawberries.
ReplyDeleteWow! I didn't know they had that many piglets! Mama must be worn out. How cute.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a great place but poor old Bess stuck with 14 mouths to feed. I can almost hear her singing "My Man's Gone Now" :-)
ReplyDeleteVery cool picture and post.
This is SO cool! They are so tiny and cute!... And so many: 14!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteLovely image, never saw anything like this! I don't believe that thing about strawberries, everybody knows they show up in small crates from nowhere.
ReplyDeleteI will have to show this one to my grandson! They are so cute. Look at their little ears and snouts, not to mention their tiny little tails. This mama really has her work cut out for her!
ReplyDeleteAWWWWWW - cute photo! 14! I wonder how many piglets are normal? Fun capture!
ReplyDeletegood place to pig out!
ReplyDeleteYou are fortunate to be able to experience country living at its best! From teaching school in south Florida (where some of my students thought people in Minnesota didn't have cars but road horses) I'd guess a lot of people don't have a clue a strawberry comes from.
ReplyDeleteLove the shot! 'Bout as cute as it gets!
They all look so cute. She must have been
ReplyDeletedraggin the ground with the babies in her.
lovely!!
ReplyDeletegreat photo - pis are lovely creatures really and without them we wouldn't have bacon nor the lovely piece of pork I had in a sandwich for tea with stuffing and apple sauce.
ReplyDeleteFourteen piglets! Did they grow on plants too? OK, I'm a country girl and I'm just funning you like you were joking with us. ;-)
ReplyDeletePick Your Own strawberries are the BEST!
They are really cute, all tiny newborns are. Sad to think that they can be eaten too. Easier with strawberries, though.
ReplyDeletefew things cuter than piglets! we need more places like pond hill farm!
ReplyDeletelast night I went to see the new documentary Food Inc. - it is tragic and awful what has happened to the way food is produced over the last 30-50 years
I highly recommend it, but it is not easy to watch!
Oh my gosh!! 14?! I wonder if they all survived.
