A WALK DOWN MAIN STREET
I thought we might do something a little different, once a week or so, while I'm "summering" in the North. Harbor Springs is a small community of 1,500 people. It became a summer haven for the "well-healed" from Detroit, Chicago, and other monied areas. The summer homes they built are simple but simply elegant. I thought I would show them to you for your viewing pleasure. The stories are hard to come by but I will try. I know nothing about the above home but I like it. It is the first of one or two a week. I will try to interject a little history, also. I hope you enjoy the series.

I do enjoy it, with a bit of envy, living in an apartment the size of the porch of this beautiful house.
ReplyDeleteVery elegant in it's simplicity. This will be a great series. Can't wait to see more. MB
ReplyDeleteI love these old homes. Every time I see an estate sale at one of them, I go just to nose around the inside.
ReplyDeleteVery nice & elegant, indeed. Such a beautifully manicured lawn, too! Lovely home
ReplyDeleteLove these kinds of houses, so I know I'll enjoy your series. Well-healed, indeed!
ReplyDeleteI especially like all the colorful flowers leading up to it. Nice scene.
ReplyDeleteA lovely house and landscaping--lovely those round colorful staggered bushes/flowers along the walk.
ReplyDeleteNot exactly what I call a "simple" house. It looks like a mansion! It's very beautiful though and a perfect place to spend the summer.
ReplyDeleteIt would be fun to live in that well-maintained house. I can imagine have a breakfast tray outside my bedroom on the second floor balcony. Of course, I would have a gardner to tend the well-manicured lawn and the abundant floral plants. Dream on....
ReplyDeleteI think what I love most about this place...the flowers. Such beautiful plantings.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea B, this place is awesome. The landscape id beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSimple elegance! I like the walkway lined with flowers too. I am looking forward to the rest of the series.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to your photos and their history. It's a fabulous idea!
ReplyDeleteincredibly picturesque when you enlarge the shot..
ReplyDeleteOh, that's just lovely!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! What a beautiful home and yard.
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful house, thought it looks like it must be a B+B or a funeral parlor. Though funeral parlors don't usually have rocking chairs on the front porch, so it must be a guest house of some sort.
ReplyDeleteFollowed your link for sky watch friday and that sure is an interesting photo but had to stop by this one as it is so pretty to see parts of the local neighbourhood.
ReplyDeleteI specially like this models house.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to the pictures and the histories. We've been up to Harbor Springs and Petoskey a few times and the big houses along the bike path - I believe they are part of various 'associations' - between these two towns are fun to look at. They seem like there should be quite the history there.
