NOT HANNIBAL BUT GEORGE HAMILTON

This is a mural on a downtown building. It depicts the history of Fort Lauderdale. I enlarged the image and stared at it for some time. I am left with the conclusion, we really don't have much of a history when compared to many of the CDP cities. There really is nothing on this mural dating back more than 100 years. That is the extent of our "modern history." On reflection, the most significant thing to take place here in the last 80-90 years was a little movie called, Where The Boys Are. Had it not been for that, we might still be a small town. It wasn't much of a movie but it sure brought a lot of young people here.

  1. The mural is quite good and I really like its style.
About living in an 'old' city may be somehow interesting, but it is probably better for the passing tourist. I'll change many dilapidated old ruins for larger street, more green and a less cramped environment.
I have to do some research about this movie...

  5. Nice shot. Look on the bright side, If Fort Lauderdale had a lot of history the mural would be too big to fit in one shot. :-)

  6. Nice shot. I agree about the history business. I think one hundred years ago, Ft. Lauderdale was a pineapple patch.

  7. I like the mural. Funnily enough, I've never heard of that film, but I had heard of Fort Lauderdale :)

  8. The mural is terrific. No one had even heard of the Isle of Man, let alone Ramsey. You do a fantastic job. Maybe you're now the most famous person from your way?

  9. Like Jackie, I had never heard of the film but I do know of Fort Lauderdale. Although I know a little more about it now, thanks to you! I like this mural, and in general think they are an attractive touch to urban areas where there would otherwise be too much concrete. I'd much rather see murals like this.
