THE MIGHTY MAC
This is the Mackinac Bridge; The Mighty Mac. It separates the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with the lower. It is the third longest suspension bridge in the world. It opened to traffic on November 1, 1957. On the left side of the bridge is Lake Michigan on the right, Lake Huron. At approximately 5:30 PM on September 6, the 150 millionth vehicle crossed the bridge. It is said that a drop of water entering lake Michigan here takes 99 years to exit the lake at this spot. It is, after all, a self contained lake. I don't know who figured this out(or why) but it is interesting.

ReplyDeleteA lot of people have crossed that bridge and I feel sorry for the guy who sat at one end and counted them all. I hope someone brought him coffee now and than. ;-)

Amazing bridge, we were born the same year. I'm a few months older, not yet run by any car until now.

Interesting fact about the drop of water but once it enters the lake how does one know where it goes?

Wonderful photo, B Squared! I've never been there (at least that I can remember) but that is one impressive bridge! The trivia is fascinating, too.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure a lot of mathematical calculations were done to come up with that interesting fact about the water drop. That is a beautiful bridge!
ReplyDeleteImpressive bridge! I enjoyed your little statistic information as well. I wonder how much truth does the 'drop story' contain. Well, maybe it is just math but what do I know.
