BIG BROTHER AND THE HOLDING COMPANY

This is becoming a common occurrence in our area. What appears to be an ordinary intersection is a whole lot more. If you let your eyes wander above the traffic lights you will see three cameras. Ostensibly, they are going to catch people who fail to stop at a red light. They will get the license plate and fine the owner. Wonderful! But, the question I ask myself, is at what cost? Aren't we loosing something also? Do your cities have cameras at every intersection? Thoughts!

  1. We have so little traffic and yet it is still monitored like this. I agree totoally with your thoughts on this. Great image and like the Joplin title.

  2. Many cameras around here, but I trust my country legendary inefficiency. Gathering too much data, they simply can't process them except for routine traffic tickets or the crime of the century.
Maybe somewhere else this is different...

  3. I don't think we have those cameras on traffic lights... yet, but Big Brother is everywhere around here too! You just start being taped the minute you put your feet on the street... and in many cases, even before leaving your building, when driving your car out of the park...

  4. We don't have them yet, but red light running is so rampant here I would be willing to put up with them!

  6. Yes, we've had them for some time. It is all the result of the Dept. of Homeland Security throwing money at local cities...

I really don't know what running a red light has to do with "homeland security."

The running of red lights is a problem, but not to be solved by further eroding our right to privacy, etc., etc.

  7. We have cameras everywhere in Arizona and they have been fining people by the thousands. It is ridiculous. Some citizens have attacked the cameras, including taking a pick to them, painting them while dressed in Santa outfits or other disguises. A ballot initiative may occur to ban them entirely in our state. We shall see. I am glad you enjoyed the cactus, the bee, and Chihuly on my site. I will have more Chihuly coming up and a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West over the next few weeks. So bee ready.

  8. We don't have them yet at every intersection, but they are posted around certain buildings--makes me want to move out to the country!

  9. Well B'ham doesn't have the money for cameras. Our crooked "city and county officials" have wasted it all. That said, I'm all for cameras. I'm so tired of sitting at a light and when it changes to green there are still folks plowing through the intersection.( Keep in mind there is a time delay so they are "scooting under the red light, they're flat out running it.) Running red lights is so dangerous. String 'em up! Ha Ahhh, that rant felt so good!!:)

  10. Even in our little town of Seguin, we have two intersections where these cameras have been installed.

Thank you for stopping by La China and visiting the bluebonnet sky watch. :)

  11. In Brazilians big cities like Rio, Sao Paulo or Porto Alegre, there are a lot of cameras to catch bad drivers, specially at the freeways. But in the common streets too. The cameras are everywhere...
