NOT SURFSIDE 6 BUT PIER 66

Every city has a signature building, one that unmistakable identifies it. This is ours, Pier 66. While there are buildings here that are better architecturally, this one clearly says you are in Fort Lauderdale. It has been a landmark since the 60's. Not in the same league with those in London, Paris or Rome but ancient by our standards. The view from the top is spectacular.

  1. Is it a popular building? We have central landmarks which have been heavily criticized from an aesthetic standpoint.

  2. I bevive it is pretty confident and even doesn't try to compare itself with any other building on Earth :)

  3. It does scream Florida. Is there a restaurant up top?

  4. The top looks like a giant straw hat!

As for Paris, same as Per: some landmarks like Montparnasse tower have been very criticized and still are...

  5. Every city has its own landmark. I don't think it's that bad. I suppose it's an apartment building.

  6. My usual question: why don't you go up and take some photos for us? I think is a distinctive building and I like it.

  9. I love the Pier 66 building. The top rotates, if I recall correctly. Does the old Irelands Inn still exist - that was the one where you could watch people swim by in the glass-walled pool, right. Have you posted a photo of that one? Have a great week and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

  10. Is an office building, one tourists can go to the top and take photos from? I'm thinking it might be the tallest building in Ft. Lauderdale. The blue seems appropriate for a building close to water.

  12. I looked at the enlargement and I'm wondering if this is one of those rotating restaurants at the top. People used to think they were really groovy. It's a beautiful building and it's back in style.
